News: Trauma Resources

I am often asked about resources and training in the area of trauma so I have decided to add some of my suggestions here. Firstly let me commend the organisation,Adults Surviving Child Abuse, for the development of their Practice Guidelines for Treatment of Complex Trauma and Trauma Informed Care. If you are interested in dowloading these guidelines go their web site.

There are several organisations that regularly provide training for professionals working with trauma. The Delphi Centre has been bringing high quality presenters to Australia for many years. It is certainly worth staying abreast of their training opportunities.

The Australian Childhood Foundation also provides one-off workshops with international presenters as well as ongoing training throughout Australia. Similarly Berry Street, who recently brought Dr Bruce Perry to Australia, offers some high quality training opportuntiies.

If you are aware of other organisations that organise trauma training please let me know so I can add them to this list.

The other resource that I think is very valuable for us as professionals working in this field is the lovely bookshop, Open Leaves based here in Brisbane. Rodney and Helen are quality booksellers specialising in mental health and therapeutic work. Not only do they have a wonderful selection of books to browse through at their shop but they also offer full on-line services, with a regular newsletters and specials. Rodney and Helen are able to source titles that you are after and will even make recommendations about specific areas you might be interested in. You will also often see them as the booksellers at training events throughout Australia.
