Many of us who work in the area of mental health are well aware that mental health is more a reflection of the world we live in rather than an individual pathology. Our loss of community and connection, the high rates of trauma in our population, lack of (real) leadership, high levels of homelessness, poverty, discrimination, the value placed on competition and consumerism, and the growing uncertainty about our future  – all these factors contribute to our wellbeing and created a context highly conductive to the rising mental health concerns for so many people.

It was sobering and refreshing to read a recent article in The Guardian by psychologist Sanah Ahsan, ‘I’m a psychologist – and I believe we’re being told devastating lies about mental health‘.

It’s well worth a read!
